Abstract

Pressure groups are association of interest groups as well as influence groups which are formed to promote the interest of their members by exercising all sorts of direct and indirect pressure on government. Pressure groups are an essential component of democratic governance. Pressure groups constitute an important component of democratic politics. They represent organized interests and seek to influence public policy without directly contesting political power. In India, pressure groups have emerged as significant actors in shaping public opinion, influencing legislation, and promoting social and economic reforms. This paper examines the nature, functions, methods, and impact of pressure groups in Indian politics. It argues that pressure groups contribute to democratic participation and policy responsiveness while simultaneously raising concerns regarding transparency, accountability, and unequal access to decision-making processes.
