Artificial Intelligence in Teacher Education: Opportunities, Challenges and Pedagogical Transformation

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force in the field of education, particularly in teacher education. The integration of AI technologies into teaching-learning processes has significantly influenced pedagogical practices, instructional planning, assessment systems, and professional development of teachers. Teacher education institutions are increasingly adopting AI-driven tools to enhance teaching competencies, personalized learning, and digital literacy among pre-service teachers. However, along with numerous opportunities, AI also presents challenges related to ethics, privacy, dependency on technology, and the changing role of teachers. The present article critically examines the opportunities, challenges, and pedagogical transformation associated with AI in teacher education. The study is conceptual and analytical in nature and is based on secondary sources such as research journals, policy documents, books, and reports. The article concludes that AI can strengthen teacher education when used ethically and pedagogically, but human values, creativity, and critical thinking must remain central to educational practices.
